Altarpiece No. 1 is one of the most significant works by Swedish pioneer Hilma af Klint, painted in 1915 as part of her deeply personal series exploring spirituality and the unseen forces of the universe. Long before abstract art entered mainstream consciousness, af Klint was producing monumental compositions of sweeping organic forms, luminous colour fields, and symbolic motifs that defied easy categorisation. This work is characterised by its grand scale of feeling, its use of curved shapes nested within one another, and a palette that moves through soft golds, whites, and warm earth tones, creating a sense of meditative reverence that the title openly invites.

This print brings a contemplative, almost devotional quality to whichever room it inhabits.
