Willows is one of William Morris's most enduring textile and wallpaper designs, first produced in 1874 and widely regarded as a defining work of the British Arts and Crafts movement. The composition features sinuous willow branches rendered in close, rhythmic detail, their slender leaves interlocking across the picture plane in a pattern that feels simultaneously structured and organic. Morris drew inspiration directly from the natural world around his riverside home at Kelmscott, and that closeness to nature comes through in the design's fluid, almost meditative quality. The palette typically moves through soft greens and muted blues, with a depth created by layered tones rather than bold contrast.
