The Swan series by Hilma af Klint ranks among the most remarkable bodies of abstract work produced in the early twentieth century, created between 1914 and 1915 as part of her larger Paintings for the Temple cycle. Each canvas in the series pairs two swans in mirrored compositions, their forms dissolving into flowing organic shapes rendered in soft whites, dusty pinks, muted blacks, and pale greens. The imagery moves fluidly between the representational and the symbolic, reflecting af Klint's deep engagement with spiritualism, theosophy, and the inner life of nature. What makes the series so quietly arresting is the sense of duality running through every panel: light meeting dark, form meeting formlessness, the earthly meeting something altogether more abstract.
